One weekend in September 2002 a dozen of our members went for a weekend's walking in and around Butteton Staffordshire. Peter Sell, one of our members has retired and moved to the area and so with some local knowledge we were guided around this beautiful part of the country over two days. Saturday was a gentle introduction for those not used to negotiating real hills (Bedfordshire is decidedly flat in comparison) but day two was the full thing. Up hill and down dale was the order of the day. Peter led the willing troup through fields, up hills and to local pubs. The pictures below are taken during the two days and show some of the countryside that can be enjoyed for those that can read a map (or cheat like me and use a GPS)
Butterton Weekend Walk 14/15th September 2002
It's only half way up the hill but there's time to take in the view (and catch your breath)
An unusual sign to encounter on a walk!
Wipe your feet before entering the drive.
After making it to the top the reward was a 360 deg view
The views go on for miles...
Thor's Cave with a resident - a tabby cat!
Splendid views and some history lessons from Peter.
