| This one of two pubs in the small village of Carlton and tucked away in the older part of the village. If you take the Turvey road from Carlton then look out to the right for the sign to the car park just before you leave the village. This is a charming thatched roofed country pub with inglenook fireplaces and very low roof beams so watch your head. This is a very friendly pub and you can be sure of a warm and sincere welcome. The locals readily chat to strangers so after a pint or two you will feel right at home. This used to be a Charles Wells tied house but was sold off and is now thankfully a free house rather than being converted into housing. They serve Charles Wells and guest ales. As of May 2008 the pub is under new management with food being re-introduced. Bookings are now taken by phone or at the bar for the resturant (01234) 720235. Details of menu and opening times can be found on their web site www.thefoxatcarlton.co.uk. We have not visited the pub since the change of managment so there is no comment on the food quality or pricing. If any members do try it out please contact the web master. The garden is small but being away from the road is reasonably quiet. Open all day at the weekends so a good place to rest and refuel and well worth seeking out. |
