Royal Oak, Carlton, Bedfordshire

This is a typical village pub and walking through the front door you would be forgiven for thinking you were walking in to someones house.

At the rear of the pub is an enlarged games room with pool tables. As such it's a popular venue for locals and if you get caught out on a wet day a happy hour or two can be passed away. If you wish to sit outside there are a few seats at the front of the pub so you can watch life pass by or the secluded garden at the back of the pub for a quieter ambience. Except when I last passed this way there was a bouncy castle (oh no! not the bouncy castle) in the garden being enjoyed by the kids.

The pub is usually open all day on Saturday and Sunday and serves the local brew, Charles Wells.

Also check out the Fox, in the high street for more Charles Wells brews and the occasional guest beer but within a thatched cottage complete with inglenook fireplaces.
